It’s almost Chanukah so I thought I would share a few of our favorite Chanukah books! Despite it not being the most important Jewish holiday, Chanukah is the holiday that has the most children’s books. While I would love to see more for other holidays I take what I can get and enjoy the wide variety of wonderful Chanukah ones. We have a lot of Chanukah books so this post I am just sharing a few of our favorites! There are more we love as well, but these are a few of the ones I treasure the most.
Favorite Hanukkah Books for Babies
This is a sweet Chanukah book for babies. It is a nice way to introduce them to the holiday with a love poem about Chanukah food and your love for them. It is a joy to read to your little baby.
This is part of a larger holiday is coming series. This series is always a great way to introduce your children to some of the basics of an upcoming holiday. The family in it prepares to celebrate Chanukah by preparing their home and preparing the traditional foods for the holiday.
I find these books a tad silly but my son loves them! They teach advanced science concepts in very simple ways. This one talks about angular momentum by talking about how a dreidel spins. It is a fun book for babies, toddlers, and older for Chanukah!
This is a fun lift-the-flap book to help baby find her dreidel! She discovers other items associated with Chanukah while looking so it is a simple way to introduce a baby to the concepts of Chanukah.
Favorite Chanukah Books for Toddlers and Preschoolers
Where do Diggers Celebrate Hanukkah?
If you have a toddler who loves construction and vehicles definitely pick up this book! It is from the same author as Where Do Diggers Sleep at Night and is cute for a construction-loving toddler. My toddler was so excited to see this Chanukah book on our shelf.
This is one of the cutest Chanukah books and one I highly recommend if you have toddlers, preschoolers, or older. In it a Jewish family adopts a dog they name Latke. He gets up to all sorts of trouble during Chanukah but they still love him. It is a very sweet book and sure to be a Chanukah favorite.
If you have an older toddler or preschooler you need to get this Chanukah book. It is a cute story of a lady who is making latkes for her community only to have a bear show up. She believes the bear is the rabbi and feeds him all the latkes. It is a cute Chanukah story about community and all around lovely.
I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Dreidel
If you like the Old Lady Who Swallowed books you will love this one. It’s a fun rhyme as the old lady eats not only all the traditional Chanukah foods but a dreidel and a menorah as well!
